In the lead up to WEG, Luhmühlen has proved to be a successful event for Irish riders. The CCI4* saw Sam Watson with Horseware Ardagh Highlight, finish in 6th on final score 41.6. Cathal Daniels with the little Rioghan Rua (owned by Margaret Kinsella) finished in 7th, on an identical score, however Sam was closest to the optimum time on the cross country, whilst Cathal and the actually came home clear with the fastest round of the day.
Patricia Ryan with Dunrath Eclipse (owned by Carol and Tom Henry), made a jump from 18th overnight to finish in 12th on a final score of 53.0, after today’s show jumping.
The winner of this years 4* is New Zealand’s Jonelle Price with Faerie Dianimo. A great achievement to win two 4 stars back to back. In May she took the Badminton title with Classic Moet.
“This mare can be a little crazy at times – she can be difficult in dressage, very strong in cross country and jumps like she is huge – but this is what makes her as good as she is!” Jonelle continued by saying she never ever thought earlier in the year, when she tried to get back to full fitness after having had her little boy last August, she would be winning two four-star competitions in a row. She thanked Julia Otto and the whole team from Luhmühlen for the fantastic organisation and hospitality and that she is already looking forward to coming back next year!
Overnight leader, Boyd Martin, had to withdraw Shamwari before this morning’s final horse inspection, as he is thought to have strained a tendon
In the CCI3*, Ireland had another great result with Michelle Kenny and River Lodge Equestrian and Spencer Golding’s Carlchen, finishing in 5th.
