Piggy March and the Irish bred Vanir Kamira (ISH) emerged as the champions at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials 2022.
Vanir Kamira is only the 14th horse to win both Badminton Horse Trials and Burghley Horse Trials.
“It’s a dream come true as a young rider growing up – I think Burghley is the toughest event in the world and probably the hardest to win,” said Piggy.
“To have a horse that’s come second twice and fifth once and only has just over four time-faults in four cross-country rounds, she’s a true Burghley horse and deserves to have her name on a plaque on Winners’ Avenue. I can’t think anyone here doesn’t think she deserves it.
Burghley first-timer Tom Jackson with another Irish bred, Capels Hollow Drift, produced a super clear in the show jumping which moved him up from fourth overnight to the runner up slot.
In third place was Tim Price with Vitali, who came into the showjumping in second place, but three fences down proved costly.
Ireland’s Padraig McCarthy with HHS Noble Call, finished in 18th place.
Susie Berry with Ringwood LB, who were the leading Irish combination going into cross country, unfortunately parted company at the Boot Racks.
