Cathal Daniels – Top Irish result at Pau

Sadly, the CCI5* Les 5 Etoiles de Pau has come to an end. It really is an enjoyable event, which draws wonderful enthusiastic crowds, who cheer on every competitor. The French riders all play to the crowds as well, lifting the excitement even more, The crowds shout encouragement to each and every rider as they pass on the cross country.

If you watch Cathal and Rioghan “`Rua’s hatcam from around the track, you will hear many Allez,Allez,Allez being called out when a horse passes. A good jump brings a cheer and a clap. It is very easy to get drawn into the enthusiasm.

Both the Pierre Michelet designed cross country course and the show jumping tracks were beautifully presented.

There was great excitement in the Irish camp when Padraig McCarthy and FALLULAH were sitting in second place after the cross country, having completed clear in the time allowed. However it was very disappointing for Padraig to pick up 16 umping faults and a 0.8 time penalty, to drop from second to 17th at the finish on a score of 41.7.
