Irish top both the CCI3* and CIC3* at the Sema Lease Camphire International
A win for Cathal Daniels and Sammy Davis Junior in the feature class, the Sema Lease CCI3* moved Cathal up to 17th position in the FEI Eventing World Rankings.
It was the show jumping phase that proved to be the decider. Cathal was sitting in second slot (just 1.2 penalties behind New Zealand’s Tim Price) going into the final phase, but two fences down with Ascona proved expensive for Price, who dropped to third place with Ascona, but moved up to second place with Kincooley Cruising. Another New Zealand entry, Jesse Campbell with Cleveland took fourth. Camphire 2016 CIC3* winner, James O’Haire with China Doll finished in fifth, to give Ireland a second top 10 placing.
Top two positions in the Castleacre CCI2* went to this year’s Badminton and Luhmühlen champion, New Zealand’s Jonelle Price and Hester who took the honours, just ahead fellow New Zealand rider, James Avery with Mr. Sneezy. Emily Corbett and Leapfrog took third for Ireland.
Kilguilkey CIC2* winner, Kevin McNabb who is hoping to secure the HSI €10,000 bonus moved closer to his target by winning the GAIN Equine Nutrition CIC2 with Willunga, as well as taking third slot with Wonham Whats Next. Cathal Daniels took another podium place, taking second with Jo Breheny’s LEB Lias Jewel, and also finished fourth with Galant DHI .
Great Britain took the top three places in the Eventing Ireland CCI1*, with Amelia King and Regal Mix in first, Francis Whittington and DHI Fiktor Nitain second and Harriet Dickin with Threerocks Peggy Bawn in third.
In the Waterford County Council CIC1*, less than 1 point separated the top two placings, but it was Michael Ryan with Tom and Carol Henry’s TR Kaygraff, who took the win finishing on a dressage score of 29.1, just ahead of Sarah Ennis with dun gelding, Tullabeg Tango on 29.4
