Triple Olympic gold medal winning rider Richard Meade has died following his battle with cancer .

He was the first British rider to have won an individual Olympic gold medal.
He was the winner of the Burghley Horse Trials in 1964, Badminton Horse Trials in 1970 and in 1982. and was a member of Britain’s gold medal winning team in the three-day event at both the 1968  (Mexico) and 1972 Olympics (Munich), where he also  won the individual gold. He won two gold and three silver World Championship medals.
His son, Harry Meade is also a member of the British eventing team . Harry Meade made an incredible comeback coming 3rd at Badminton last year after shattering both elbows in a rotational fall at Wellington Horse Trials, after which doctor’s only left him with a 10 percent chance of ever riding again . He finished third with Wild Lone, who tragically collapsed and died after his clear cross country at the WEG 2014.
