EquiRatings moves to training services to help coaches and athletes connect and learn

EquiRatings this week announced a partnership with a new US company, OnForm, to deliver a video analysis and coaching app which allows coaches and riders to connect, in any equestrian discipline, at any level, to get feedback and exercises.

The OnForm app, available for iOS now, allows athletes to upload a video of a piece of training and receive coaching and feedback from any rider or coach, anywhere in the world. It is designed for:

  • Coaches who want to access the global market of equestrian athletes
  • Athletes who may be limited in their access to feedback by either time or distance
  • In-person coaches who want to give a rider feedback quickly during a lesson using precise slow-motion controls and markup tools
  • Teams or organisations who wish to organise equestrian videos or clips centrally and then distribute for discussion and feedback from coaches, selectors or committee members
  • Athletes and owners to share training clips, with a voiceover tool for videos being uploaded to social media with explainers or stories.

EquiRatings believe that the technology can help bring the power of the remote economy to the equestrian world. Coaches can set their own pricing and training plans and these transactions take place outside of the app. This ensures coaches receive 100% of the revenue generated from their coaching. The app itself is the tool which allows all of the communication and feedback to happen.

To keep riders and coaches around the world connected during the Covid-19 crisis, EquiRatings and OnForm are making the app available for free through to the end of May 2020. Thereafter, pricing is based on users, with single coach and athlete feedback packages starting at $7.99/month or $79/year, for unlimited video management and connection on a 1:1 basis.

Quote: EquiRatings founder and Irish Event Rider, Sam Watson:

My biggest passion is progress and I strongly believe that riders seeing their own performance, accompanied by expert feedback is the key to better understanding, faster learning and improved performance. Access and opportunity can be major blockers to performance progress in sport. ‘I only see my coach twice a month’ is no longer a reason to train without purpose or without feedback. This tool is a great step for EquiRatings to bring people through the full loop of where you now, where you want to get to and now, how to do it.

Quote: OnForm Founder, Gear Fisher: My daughter started riding horses a few years ago, and I was surprised to learn this feedback loop didn’t seem to exist. Coaching was very much by feel, with little structured data or planning to go along with it. I believed that for learning a skill, video was similar to a GPS file for runners, in that, it was something around which a coach and athlete could have a conversation about how to improve. The EquiRatings team spoke our language in terms of marginal gains and structured training and we are delighted to partner with them to ensure the needs of equestrians are met.

The OnForm app is available now for iOS download, with an Android version due to released soon.
