Hobby Horse Competition Comes to Thoresby’s Eventing Spring Carnival

Thoresby Park’s Eventing Spring Carnival heralds the start of Spring and marks the start of the UK’s international eventing calendar.  Joining the international competition line up for 2025 will be the first International Hobby Horse Competition, by Hobby Horse Adventures.

The Nottinghamshire event takes place from 28 – 30th March and expects to welcome the world’s best eventing athletes, along with many keen Hobby Horse enthusiasts for one of the fastest growing activities in the UK.

Hobby Horse Adventures hosts hobby horse events across the UK, allowing enthusiasts to showcase their hobby horsing skills, meet like-minded young people, and have fun in a fully inclusive environment where hobby horsing is second nature.

Hobby Horse Adventures will be running a range of “qualifiers” across the country, as a pathway for competitors to compete at their first international fixture.

A range of classes will run across the weekend, including clear-round, Grand National races, Mounted Games, Chase Me Charlie, Barrel Racing and Scurrying, in addition to their feature Showjumping classes.

Loan ponies’ will be available from the Hobby Horse Adventures tradestand for those looking to have a go for the very first time.

Entries for all classes can be made in advance or on the day.

“For Thoresby one of our key aims is to build a wider audience we can showcase the best of eventing to.  By welcoming Hobby Horse Adventures to The Spring Carnival, we’re bringing a new type of equestrian audience to the event, and giving our family audience a new activity to engage in.

BEDE Events are always keen to be the first to try something new, so why not the first international Hobby Horse competition?” Event Director, Stuart Buntine

Hobby Horse Adventures commented:

“Hobby Horsing has always been good old-fashioned wholesome fun! We have all done it as kids with the traditional long-sticked hobby horses, but this is hobby horsing with a twist now! The current sport storming across the UK, Europe and the World is show jumping on hobby horses with shorter sticks to enable the child to compete over custom-made (lightweight) show jumps made for little legs!

“Just come and have a go – even the parents can join in! Suitable for any age – who doesn’t like running, jumping and just having FUN.”

Sunday, March 30, coincides with Mother’s Day and the Spring Carnival will play host to The Great Thoresby Mother’s Day Treasure Hunt that offers families and friends a fun filled outdoor activity with a chance to win a holiday package worth over £2,000!  But that’s not all, take the pressure off and let Thoresby’s hospitality team take care of you with a Mother’s Day afternoon tea, starting at just £14.

Families also win big on Sunday: a Sunday Family Fun Bundle, including two adult admission tickets, car parking, and two Treasure Hunt tickets is just £35 – and every day at Thoresby, kids go free.

Early bird pricing is available until 28th February with tickets available at https://thoresby-horse.co.uk and starting at just £10.
