Influential Cross Country at Burghley

There were some big surprises on today’s cross country at The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials when some of the top combinations ran into problems.

Andrew Nicholson had a nasty fall on  Qwanza at the Storm Doris fence, but later rode Nereo round clear to finish in sixth place after cross country.

New Zealand’s Mark Todd who led the field after dressage, had a fall in Discovery Valley when Leonidas made a huge jump over the first element and then pecked on landing, unseating Mark , so they parted company.

Zara Tindall and High Kingdom parted company in the water at the Landrover Trout Hatchery.

Michael Jung and La Biosthetique Sam FBW retired at Trout Hatchery

Clare Abbott and Euro Prince over the Cottesmore Leap

All three Irish combinations jumped clear cross country, and Clare Abbott and  EURO PRINCE who were in 23rd place after dressage have moved into 12th position going into tomorrow’s final phase.
