Countdown is on to the 2022 Land Rover Burghley 5*

 The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials  CCI5*L  (1-4 SEPTEMBER 2022) makes a welcome return, having been cancelled in 2020 and 2021.

It will be a first time Burghley for all three Irish riders: Susie Berry, Cathal Daniels and Padraig McCarthy

Bred by Anne Hughes he is by Marion Hughes’ 2004 Irish Olympic jumping stallion Heritage Fortunas. He was acquired as a six-year-old from Marion Hughes having done some showjumping

The course designer for the 2022 Burghley is Derek di Grazia, whose designing credits include the Tokyo Olympics and the Kentucky CCI5* tracks since 2011.

The total prize fund for the 2022 event will total to £360,750 – the highest in eventing. The winner will take home £100,000 home with them, with the remaining money being spread out amongst other placed horses and riders. As is to be expected, there are many formidable entries heading to Burghley this year.

The pathfinder at Burghley will once again be Oliver Townend with As Is. Oliver has three other rides entered, and as he can ride a maximum of three: he will take Tregilder, and either Swallow Springs or Lukas (formerly ridden by Camilla Speirs).

The reigning champion Pippa Funnell has two  entered:  Majas Hope ( Traditional Irish Horse a 2007 gelding by Porter Rhodes (TB) out of a Flagmount King (ID) mare, bred by Jack Murphy in Co. Kilkenny) and Billy Walk On
