The Irish Eventing Team of Ian Cassells (Millridge Atlantis ISH), Aoife Clark (Full Monty De Lacense), Padraig McCarthy (Pomp ‘n’ Circumstance) and Robbie Kearns (Chance Encounter ISH [TIH]) claimed the Team Silver Medal today at the FEI Eventing European Championships at Blenheim Palace in the UK.

Ireland, who sat in seventh position after Dressage, before delivering an outstanding Cross Country performance on Saturday to climb five places and move into medal contention heading into the final show jumping phase.

With Aoife Clark eliminated on Cross Country, the pressure in the final phase intensified as all three remaining Irish scores would count. Under Chef d’Équipe Dag Albert, the team held their nerve with Padraig McCarthy jumping clear while both Ian Cassells and Robbie Kearns added just one rail each to finish on a team total of 161.9.

That left Ireland almost two fences clear of France (bronze on 167.5), while Germany took gold on 124.9.
