Izzy Taylor wins the CCI$*-L and World No. 1 Tim Price wins CCI4*-S at Tattersalls

• IRELAND’S SAM WATSON PLACED 4^TH IN THE BIG CCI4* SHORT FORMAT COMPETITION WHICH WAS WON BY WORLD NO.1 TIM PRICE FROM NEW ZEALAND

Large crowds enjoyed thrilling cross country and showjumping action today as well as a very busy country fair at Tattersalls International Horse Trials & Country Fair, where ideal conditions brought in huge crowds of almost 14,000 to the historic 100-acre estate in the Co Meath countryside. The main feature event of the day the Irish Field 4-star competition was won in the Colm Quinn BMW Arena by Team GB’s Izzy Taylor on her horse PSH Gazelle with Ireland’s Elizabeth Power, finishing in fourth on her horse Samuel Thomas.

Well known stars from the world of racing and sport enjoyed the countryside action including jockeys Robbie Power and Barry Geraghty, legendary trainer Jessica Harrington and Grand National winning trainer Gordon Elliott along with Minister Simon Coveney and Racing TV’s Kevin O’Ryan and Kate Harrington.

Top Irish riders were well represented at the latter stages of the competition which saw an international field of 17 Olympians from 14 countries which included multiple Olympic and World Champions. In essence, this was the highest quality sporting event to take place in Ireland this year.

Elsewhere the three-acre shopping village with 80 craft, fashion and local food shops reported a very brisk trade as the thousands of families and spectators indulged in an estimated 20,000 bottles of water and 12,000 ice creams! The biggest attractions for the children were the jumping Mini-Puissance ponies, the friendliest dog show in Ireland for all shapes, sizes and breeds of pooches as well as the curious woolly Alpacas who entertained the crowds no end.

Because of the ever increasing international entries from overseas, Tattersalls International Horse Trials were responsible for the largest movement of competition horses in one go across the Irish Sea earlier this week. Two ferries crossed from the UK to Dublin Port carrying 70 lorries with 190 horses and the entire convoy made it into the Tattersalls stable yard for before rush hour at 6.30am last Tuesday morning!

 

RESULTS

The feature class, The Irish Field CCI4* saw Team GB’s Izzy Taylor win for the second year in a row with the 11-year-old mare PSH Gazelle  finishing on her dressage score of 32.4. Izzy was 11^th after dressage, third after cross country and it took overnight leader William Coleman from the USA to drop one fence in the showjumping phase for Izzy to win overall. Best of the Irish was Esib Power in fourth on Irish bred Samuel Thomas who finished on a score of 36.5.

The shorter course George Mernagh Memorial CCI4* – S, turned out to be a thrilling competition with World No.1 Tim Price from New Zealand taking the honours on grey mare Ascona M with a score of 27.1 with the no.7 world ranked Sam Watson from Co Carlow best of the Irish in fourth position on 39.1.

The Eventing Ireland CCI3* reached a thrilling finale as legendary English rider William Fox Pitt went second last into the show jumping arena, needing a clear round to win.  He duly produced the clear with Georgiosaurous , to complete on an overall score of 20.5. Best of the Irish was Brian Morrison with Global Orchid, finishing on  a score of 28.3 to take sixth place.

The Connollys Red Mills CCIU253*-L  was won by Cathal Daniels from Co Galway on LEB Lias Jewel with a score of 27.7  Cathal had been the overnight leader with OLS King Aragon, and in second with LEB Lias Jewel. OLS King Aragon rolled a pole in the show jumping, but LEB Lias Jewel produced a flawless round  to take the laurels.

In the Land Rover CCI2*L the  honours were taken by  John Paul Sheffield  (GBR) with Woodlander Wesuvio, finishing on a score of 32.5 . Best of the Irish was   Fergal Nesbitt on Apollo Landing  who finished 8th on a score of 34.1

The winner of the Cooley Farm CCIYH2* (for 6 & 7-year-old horses) was  Izzy Taylor on Hartacker  (GBR) finishing on a score of 28.3. Co Meath’s Sarah Ennis was the best of the Irish in 3rd place on Shanbo Sky Fall finishing on 29.0.

The Berney Brothers CCI2*L for Ponies was won by Grace Tyrell for Ireland with her own Fiona’s Form on a score of 43.4.

The Horseware CCI2* long format for junior riders was won by Ireland’s Chloe Fagan  with Versace Biscuit, finishing on a score of 25.6 having picked up just 0.8 of a time fault cross country.
