Jonty Evans – best of the Irish after cross-country

Ireland lies in ninth place following Monday’s cross-country phase of the Olympic eventing at Rio. The  Pierre Michelet designed course proved to be a very tough challenge for all nations,  with only three riders coming home clear within the time.

Jonty Evans remains the best-placed Irish rider with Cooley Rorkes Drift. Clear jumping  with 22.80 time penalties, left them lying in 16th position after the cross-country..

First of the team to take on the course was Pádraig McCarthy on Simon Porloe,  but a crashing fall at on the course resulted in elimination, Second rider, Clare Abbott with Euro Prince accrued 40 jumping penalties   + 25.60  time penalties . Final Irish rider Mark Kyle with Jemilla, finished with an unfortunate 20 jumping penalties  and 30.8 time penalties .
