Ireland’s Sarah Ennis and BLM Diamond Delux lie in seventh place with 43.6 penalties after the first day of dressage at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials. Camilla Speirs and Portersize Just a Jiff scored 49.9, while Michael Ryan and Ballylynch Adventure scored 52.8 penalties and Joseph Murphy and DHI Top Story lie on 54.9 penalties.
The reigning Olympic and European champion, Germany’s Michael Jung with La Biosthetique Sam, has taken the lead with a score of 34.4 after the first day of Dressage. Michael Jung has come straight to Badminton from Kentucky after his victory in the Rolex Kentucky. He stands to be only the second rider to win the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing, if he can take the title at Badminton.
The Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing is awarded to any rider who wins the Rolex Kentucky, Badminton and Burghley Horse Trials in consecutive order. Jung won the 2015 Burghley, the 2016 Kentucky and now needs to take the 2016 Badminton title to win the ultimate prize.
