Day 2 of dressage at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials saw the remaining Irish contender, Joseph Murphy and Sportsfield Othello as final test of the day, scoring 52.2 penalties leaving them in 55= place for the start of cross country tomorrow.
At this stage it is Sarah Ennis and BLM Diamond Delux , who start out the best of the Irish in 12th place on a score of 43.6, with Camilla Speirs and the tiny Portersize Just A Jiff in 45th place on 49.9 and Michael Ryan and Ballylynch Adventure in 59= on a score of 52.8. Joseph Murphy and his second ride, DHI Topstory are in 67th position with 54.9 penalties.
There was quite a crowd watching the dressage today and the atmosphere possibly caused some horses to become quite tense during their tests. One combination drawing huge crowd reaction was Ben Hobday and Mulrys Error.
Today’s star of the dressage was the youngest rider at Badminton this year. Mary King’s 20 year old Emily King who competes with the black gelding Brookleigh, posted an amazing score of 36.8 to go into 2nd place after dressage. At the press conference Emily said that she came wanting to do very well,” she added that “I’m a very competitive person and since we went to Pau and had a good result I knew he was capable of doing very well here.” She added that she was impressed with the course, stating that it is a big, bold attacking course
