Paul Tapner wins CCI3* and Padraig McCarthy wins CIC3* at Tattersalls

The Irish Field CCI3* has been won by Australia’s Paul Tapner & the Irish bredPrince Mayo after a clear round show jumping left him finishing on his dressage score of 44.8.  The combination had been in second place after Saturday’s cross country but leader Padraig McCarthy withdrew Mr. Chunky before the final horse inspection. Only 0.1 of a penalty had separated the two.

Great Britain took the next two slots with Flora Harris & Cooley Lord Lux finishing second on a score of 60.9. and Michael Owen & The Highland Prince in third on 62.8.

Andrew Hoy & The Blue Frontier took fourth  and best of the Irish was Tony Kennedy & Westeria Lane who took fifth.

All three podium places in the George Mernagh Memorial CIC3* were taken by the Irish. The winner  was Padraig McCarthy (Simon Porloe) with Austin O’Connor (Kilpatrick Knight) in second and Jonty Evans (Cooley Rourkes Drift) in  third.

William Fox-Pitt has returned to winning form after his serious head injury at the World Young Horse Championships in Lion-D’Angers last October. He followed up on his win in the CCI1* yesterday, by taking the Eventing Ireland CCI2* class riding Catherine Witt’s Secret Night.

The combination led the competition after dressage on 39.70 and remained on that score to finish. In second place was New Zealand’s Jonelle Price & Cooley Showtime who also completed on their dressage score of  42.00  and in third place was Great Britain’s Oliver Townend and Ridire Dorcha on a score of 46.00.

Best of the Irish was Aidan Keogh & Pride of Tredstep who finished fourteenth position on 54.6.
