The opening week of the Portugal Spring Tour at Mata do Duque International came to an exciting conclusion after three days of competition, culminating in a thrilling day of cross-country that proved decisive across all levels.

In the feature CCI4-S*, Spain’s Carlos Diaz Fernandez claimed victory with Quintus, finishing ahead of compatriot Albert Hermoso Farras and Coca AA 24.37, while Britain’s David Doel secured third place with Cobalt de Dugny.

The CCI3-S* saw Belgium’s Kris Vervaecke dominate proceedings, filling the top two spots on the podium. He took the win with Questo van Alsingen, while Rollo van Alsingen finished runner-up, completing an impressive one-two for the Belgian rider. Britain’s David Doel again featured on the podium, taking third place with the Irish Sport Horse Silver Rollercoaster.

In the CCI2-S*, France’s Leilani Watson and Devinette Blanche topped the standings. Spain’s Albert Hermoso Farrasadded another podium finish to his weekend with Italia Jolly Jumper in second place, while Pedro Lira Jimenez and Inca BK completed the top three.

The CCI1 Intro* title went to Spain’s Alejandra Molina De La Cuerda riding Balsamo Beaulieu. Fellow Spaniard Matthieu Esser Diaz finished second with Zeppelin Blue, and Francisco Gaviño Gonzalez took third with Ultrasource del Cerro 35.
With strong international fields, excellent ground conditions and an exciting cross-country finale, the first week of competition delivered a superb showcase of eventing in the Portuguese sunshine. Attention now turns to the second week of the Portugal Spring Tour, as riders prepare to go again at Mata do Duque. 🐎🇵🇹
