Tattersalls draws top riders

There are 343 entries at Tattersalls International Horse Trials this year, with riders from nine nations taking part. The event will run from 31st May to  4th June 2017 and will include the Irish leg of the FEI Nations Cup.

This year Tattersalls has drawn some of the world’s top event riders including:

Zara Tindall

Zara Tindall (GBR)

Zara Tindall is the daughter of Princess Anne (who won two silver medals  and one gold medal  at the European Eventing Championships and was the first member of the British Royal Family to have competed in the Olympic Games),and Olympic Gold medalist Captain Mark Phillips.

Zara Tindall won the World Championships in 2006 and recently was placed third in the Rolex Kentucky Three day Event.

Currently 145th in the FEI World rider ranking

Sir Mark Todd

Sir Mark Todd

Eight time Olympian Mark Todd  has won Badminton on four occasions and Burghley five times.

In 2000 he retired from eventing after winning bronze at the Sydney Olympics. He then made a return to eventing in 2008.

Currently 9th in the FEI World rider ranking

William Fox-Pitt

William Fox-Pitt (GBR)

William Fox-Pitt was the first British rider to become eventing’s World No 1, which he achieved in 2002, 2009, 2010 and again in 2014.

He won  team Silver at the 2012 London Olympics, team Silver at the 2004 Athens Olympics, team Bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, team Silver and Individual Bronze at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy, Individual Bronze at the 2013 European Championships in Malmo, team Gold and Individual Silver at the 2010 World Equestrian Games , team Silver at the 2006 World Equestrian Games , and team Bronze at the 2002 World Equestrian Games.  He has won seven team Gold medals at the European Championships and has been the British No 1 eleven times.

He  won Burghley 4* (1994, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2011), Badminton 4* (2004 & 2015), Luhmuhlen 4* (2008), Rolex Kentucky 4* (2010, 2012, 2014) and Pau 4* (2011, 2013).

He became one of the first riders to ever win a CCI*, CCI** and CCI*** at the same event on the same day – which he achieved at Tattersalls.

William sustained a serious head injury in a fall at Le Lion d’Angers in 2015 and was placed into an induced coma.

Mary King

Mary King (GBR)

Eventing icon Mary King has represented Great Britain at six Olympics, winning team silver in 2004 and 2012, and team bronze in 2008. At the World Equestrian Games, she won team gold in 1994 and 2010, and team silver in 2006. She has also won four team golds and one team bronze medal at the European Eventing Championships.

Her individual honours include European bronze in 1995 and European Silver in 2007.

She won the CCI4* Badminton Horse Trials in 1992 and 2000, the CCI4* Burghley Horse Trials in 1996, and the CCI4*Rolex Kentucky  in 2011.

Emily King

Emily King (GBR)

Daughter of Mary King, she represented Great Britain for the first time when she was 15-years-old at the 2011 Junior European Eventing Championships in Vale Sabroso where she finished seventh individually..
In 2012 she  won her first individual European medal at the 2012 Junior European Eventing Championships in Strzegom where she won silver.

In 2015 she won team gold in the Young Rider European Championships in Strzegom, was second in CIC3* in Ballindenisk and finished 4th in her first 4* at Pau.

Kitty King

Kitty King (GBR)

Kitty King competed at the 2016  Olympics in Rio where she finished 30th in the individual and 5th in the team competition.

In 2015 was ranked 9th in the FEI World Rankings

Piggy French

Piggy French (GBR)

Piggy French first represented Britain at senior level at the 2009 FEI European Championships in Fontainebleau (FRA) where she won the individual silver title.

In 2010 Piggy represented Britain as an individual with Jakata to take individual 16th place in the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky.

Her first British team appearance was in the 2011 FEI European Championships, again riding Jakata where the team came home with the bronze title with Piggy finishing in 9th place overall.

Pippa Funnell

Pippa Funnell (GBR)

In 2003 Pippa Funnell became the first rider  to win the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing. She also won Badminton in 2002 and 2005

At the European Championships, she has won two Individual golds (1999–2001) and three team golds (1999–2003).

She is a three time Olympic medalist, winning team silver in 2000 and 2004, and an individual bronze in 2004. She also competed at the 2016 Olympic Games.

Oliver Townend

Oliver Townend (GBR)

Oliver Townend is a former winner of both Badminton and Burghley. A serial winner at Ballindenisk he is currently 7th in the FEI World rider ranking

Harry Meade

Harry Meade (GBR)

Harry Meade  has been placed at Badminton nine times and is the youngest rider to have been awarded the Armada dish ( which is awarded for five Badminton completions).

He made an incredible comeback from injury, to finish third with Wild Lone at Badminton in 2014 after breaking both elbows.  . He represented Great Britain as part of the silver medal winning team at the 2014 World Championships in Normandy, where Wild Lone tragically collapsed and died after his clear cross country

Vittoria Panizzon

Vittoria Panizzon (Italy)

Vittoria Panizzon represented Italy at the 2008 Beijing Olympics with her horse, Rock Model, finishing 16th overall. She was also a member of the team that won the bronze medal for Italy in the 2007 European championships.

At the 2012  Olympics she competed in the Individual eventing.

She won the Ballindenisk CCI2*  in 2012

Currently 42nd in the FEI World rider ranking

Sam Griffiths

Sam Griffiths (AUS)

Sam Griffiths won the 2014 Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials.

He was a member of the bronze medal team at the Rio Olympic Games – and was fourth individually

Currently 20th in the FEI World rider ranking

Blyth Tait

Blyth Tait (NZL)

Blyth Tait is a former double World Champion and Olympic individual gold medallist. He is now based in the UK.

Placed 2nd at Badminton on three occasions.

Currently 46th in the FEI World rider ranking

Tim Price

Tim Price (NZL)

In 2014 Tim Price won the 4*at Luhmuhlen.

Tim made his début for the New Zealand  team at the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games  where he and Jonelle Price became the first husband and wife to represent New Zealand at the WEG.

In 2015 he was second at Burghley and in 2016 he was fourth

He is currently 15th in the FEI World rider Ranking

 Irish Olympians will include Jonty Evans, Camilla Spiers, Mark Kyle, Clare Abbott, Michael Ryan and Austin O’Connor. Cathal Daniels Currently 38th in the FEI World rider ranking was long listed for the 2016 Olympic Games and has three European Gold medals.
