What a different climate for the second event of the weekend. Boots and waterproofs were cast aside and replaced by T-shirts, at Ballycahane One Day Event (Crecora -1) held by the Furnell family. This brought many more spectators to enjoy the action on the cross country.
The brush and drop at Fence 13 drew a large number of spectators during the two star section, but it jumped very well, more of a rider (or spectator) frightener.
Steven Smith took the top two slots in the O/CNC2* with only 0.7 of a penalty point separating the two. Winner was the Cavalier Two For Joy gelding, The Wolf Man , with Rio in second place. David Sheedy and OCS Electric Clover Boy were third.
In the CNC2* it was the show jumping that affected the results more than the cross country, with no combination producing a clear. Jim Newsam added just 4 show jumping penalties to add to his dressage scores with both Dunrath Wellington and Kilcooley Michael, which left him claiming first and third in the section. In second place was Paul Donovan with Sportsfield Pretty Lady.
The O/CNC1* was the first outing for new combination Michelle Kenny and Loughnavatta Cedar to finish on their dressage score of 26.8 penalties to win.
The team from River Lodge Equestrian in Wexford, dominated in the CNC1* with Michelle Kenny taking first with RLE Nuans T Volt and third with RLE Egane. Rafael Sanctuary and RLE Laught Bedazzled were placed second.
A dressage score of just 19.3 penalties left Padraig Harrington and Tullabeg Vision with just under 20 penalties in hand before the other 3 phases. 4 penalties in the show jumping and a clear cross country, left them on a final score of 23.3 to take the pole position in the CNCJ1* section.
Brian Morrison took both top slots in the EI100 – A, winning with the chestnut gelding Global Endeavour finishing the day on their dressage score on 26.5 penalties. In second place, also finishing on a dressage score of was Twiggy Pop. Adrian Burrell and Shore to Shore took third slot.
In the EI100- B section, it was Felicity Ward and Saywhatinao Bay who were the victors after leading from the start with a dressage score of 22. Followed by clears in both show jumping and cross country
In the TopSpec CNC1* Amateur Section Jackie O`Donoghue and DOD Twiggy finished on 29.9 penalties to win, ahead of Zoe Kavanagh and Reminisce One (who recently placed in 5th place in the Mitsubishi Motors Cup at Badminton Horse Trials) in second and Marie Symington and Ballyingowan Glance in third.
